20/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - Meeting on Wednesday 19 December, the committee of permanent representatives (Coreper) maintained its opposition to the European Parliament's position on the regulation which establishes common rules on air safety (see EUROPE 9569). Member states challenge the Parliament's claim that it has a right to review future application measures for the regulation (with possibility of veto). These measures, which have not yet been defined, would aim to establish extraordinary safety provisions in the event of crisis or threat of attack. The Council is expected to present a counter-proposal in the near future. Conciliation will continue over the first two weeks of January 2008. (A.By.)
