20/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 17 December, the director general of DG Justice, Freedom and Security (JFS) at the European Commission, Jonathan Faull, explained to MEPs from the EP's civil liberties committee that the role of the EU anti-terrorist coordinator, Gilles de Kerckhove, “is not to make legislative proposals” but rather “to convince member states to keep their promises”. Faull explained to MEPs (who were asking why Mr de Kerckhove had presented proposals at the beginning of December to improve the EU's work on fighting terrorism) that this is a Commission partnership and that he did not have any difficulty with de Kerchove.
