No calendar has yet been defined for Danish referendum on opt-outs to European integration

Brussels, 17/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - “It is time to reconsider the Danish opt-outs”, which came about mainly as a result of the country's refusal to take part in monetary union and European defence policy, said Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Denmark's prime minister, speaking on Friday 14 December during the European Liberal party's summit prior to the European Council. “We did not present a timetable for referendums during the electoral campaign”, he said, “but we do intend to submit the opt-outs to referendum” as part of the national parliament's four-year mandate. In his view, the first stage will be to ratify the European Reform Treaty then to analyse its impact on the Danish opt-outs in application. Denmark has not yet taken a decision on the subject of whether there will be a single referendum encompassing all the derogations or several referendums for each of them. (M.B.)
