17/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - In a letter sent to no fewer than five European commissioners (Ms Kuneva, Ms Kroes, Mr Kyprianou, Mr Kallas and Mr Verheugen) on 30 November, the association EAEPC, which represents companies that carry out their trade by purchasing drugs in low-cost countries (such as Spain) and reselling them in the countries in which they are more expensive, has voiced its concern at the consequences of a reinforcement in the rules on the packaging and labelling of drugs. This reinforcement, which has been called for by the producers of medicines and pharmacists, is currently being looked at by the services of the Commission, as a means of preventing counterfeit products from arriving on the European market. Stating that they have full control over their own distribution systems, the traditional drugs laboratories and wholesalers present parallel trade as the only weak link in the chain. In a press release, the EAEPC reaffirms that all products sold by its members are 100% safe, having been bought in the EEA and sold on in the EEA. (O.J.)
