17/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 17 December in Brussels during the Agriculture Council, Germany, France, Finland, Belgium and Luxembourg presented a memorandum on the industrial use of renewable resources in the EU. These countries are calling for an action plan that brings together the measures allowing the EU to avail itself of the means to develop the plant chemistry and biomaterials sectors. The action plan must complete the European action plan developed in favour of using biomass energy. Measures recommended include: - a Community taxation framework allowing member states to make the very best industrial use of biomass; - more transparent information for consumers on the renewable origin of products (European Ecolabel); - more research and development in this field; - and proposals for strengthening the sustainable production of biomass.
