Bulgaria to receive €3bn from ERDF and solidarity fund for transport and environment

Brussels, 29/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 27 November in Brussels, Regional Policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner, Bulgarian Minister of Finance Mr Plamen Oresharski, Minister for Transport Mr Peter Vasilev Mutafchiev, and Minister for Environment Mr Djevdet Chakarov formally signed the agreement for two operational programmes for transport and the environment. The total amount of EU funds is €3 billion for 2007-2013.

The ERDF and Cohesion Funds will therefore be granted to: 1) the transport programme, €1.6 billion to reduce congestion, noise and pollution, and promoting use of environment-friendly modes of transport, such as railway infrastructure, the extension of the Sofia metro and the improvement of navigation on the river Danube; 2) the environment programme, €1.4 billion for water supply and waste water treatment and the protection of biodiversity.
