Brussels, 05/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - Unemployment in the eurozone stood at 7.3% in September 2007, compared with 7.4% in August 2007 and 8.1% in September 2006. In the EU27, unemployment stood at 7% in September 2007, compared with 7.1% in August 2007 and 8% in September 2006. In September 2007, the lowest unemployment was recorded in the Netherlands (3.1%) and Denmark (3.3% in August 2007), and the highest in Slovakia (11.1%) and Poland (8.8%). 23 member states recorded falling levels of unemployment from September 2006 to September 2007 and 3 a rise, whereas unemployment remained unchanged in Luxembourg. The biggest relative falls were recorded in Poland (from 12.9% to 8.8%) and Lithuania (from 6.0% to 4.1%). The biggest relative increases were observed in Ireland (from 4.1% to 4.8%) and in Portugal (from 7.6% to 8.3%). In September 2007, unemployment in the United States stood at 4.7% and unemployment in Japan at 4.0%. (L.C.)
