Court agrees with Commission that Volkswagen Law infringes EU law

Luxembourg, 23/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - In a ruling on 23 October 2007, the European Court of Justice confirmed that the 1960 Volkswagen Law in Germany protecting the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer from any hostile takeover bids is incompatible with the free movement of capital. The Court ruled that Germany had not been able to defend the Volkswagen Law, which the Commission brought legal action against in 2005.
