THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/lisbon summit

19/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - Belgium is opposing the idea of the 13-14 December European Council, which is due to be held in Brussels, being moved to Lisbon to make life easier because the Lisbon Treaty will be signed by EU heads of state on 13 December. This will not be possible because it's a formal summit, said Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, when asked by a reporter about whether Belgium might agree to the European Council being held in Lisbon as an exception.
