19/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - The EU and India may conclude a “cross-cutting” aviation agreement next week. The vice president of the European Commission with responsibility for transport, Jacques Barrot, may meet the Indian Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Praful Patel, next week, to try to resolve the final outstanding issues. The joint declaration adopted by the EU/India civil aviation summit last November provides for the conclusion of this kind of cross-cutting agreement, and a joint action plan, laying down the main priorities in terms of technical and technological cooperation (airport infrastructure, air safety and security). The Indian aviation market is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world. Last year alone, the number of internal passenger flights grew by 50% and the number of seats offered for sale in passenger transport between the EU and India by 37%. (A.By.)
