08/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - In conclusions to be adopted on Tuesday 9 October, the ECOFIN Council will examine member states' experience in updating public administrations and the quality of public finances. All member states have taken initiatives in this field based in four main areas - public budgets more closely oriented on the drive for efficiency; reorganisation of the civil service; reforming human resource management; and better use of information technology and communications, explains the draft report. The Council will return in the spring of next year to the question of effective and cost-effective use of public spending, particularly welfare spending, education and R&D. (ab)
