Brussels, 04/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - Branko Baricevic, Croatian Ambassador to the EU, and European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday 3 October in Brussels sealing Croatia's participation in the Intelligent Energy for Europe programme for the period 2007-2013. Zagreb was already a participant in the earlier version of the programme, which is one of the three pillars of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) for 2007-2013 (See EUROPE 8923 and 9286). With a budget of €730 million, Intelligent Energy for Europe aims to foster energy efficiency, promote new and renewable energy sources and develop new, cleaner energy technologies. (eh)
