01/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - Benita Ferrero-Waldner welcomes the initiative taken by the Belarusian civil society to organise a European march in Minsk on 14 October, in order to express the support of the Belarusian people for closer relations between Belarus and the EU. In a press release published on Thursday 27 September, the commissioner for external relations says: “I am concerned by reports that a number of organisers of this peaceful march have been arrested” and trusts that the Belarusian authorise will respect the “basic human right of the Belarusian people to express themselves and to assembly”.
