25/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - Nicolas Sarkozy, Angela Merkel and Arnold Schwarzenegger are among those nominated for the 2007 Europeans of the Year awards. As every year, the public is invited to choose from among some 50 people, selected by European Voice and divided into nine different categories, those who have most influenced European affairs over the last 12 months. Voting may be carried out online at http://www.ev50.org or through a ballot form printed in the newspaper. Among those nominated are Paul Rübig, the Austrian EPP-ED MEP, who wrote the report on roaming, Nicolas Stern, the British economist and author of a report on climate change published on 30 October 2006, and former Russian chess champion Gary Kasparov. The winners of the awards will be revealed at a gala dinner on 27 November. This year, all profits from the event will go to the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA). (ab)
