Commission approves five acquisitions

Brussels, 14/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 14 September, the European Commission announced that it had approved five proposed concentrations, all examined under the simplified merger review procedure. The first was the acquisition of joint control of Emirates Aluminium Company Limited, of the United Arab Emirates, which owns and operates aluminium plants in Abu Dhabi, by Dubai Aluminium Company Limited which produces and sells primary aluminium products, and Mubadala Development Corporation, an investment company controlled by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The second concentration is the acquisition of sole control of LHS AG of Germany, which supplies business support system (BSS) software and related services in the telephone sector, by Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson, the Swedish telephone multinational. The proposed purchase of Fläkt Woods Sarl of Luxembourg by Sagard SAS of France was also approved. Sagard is an investment fund and Fläkt Woods manufactures ventilation systems. In its fourth decision, the Commission granted clearance for AGCO Deutschland Holding Limited & Co. KG, belonging to AGCO Corporation of the United States, and ARGO S.p.A. of Italy to acquire joint control of the agricultural machine producer Laverda S.p.A. of Italy. The two purchasing companies are active in the production and distribution of agricultural machines. Finally, the Commission approved the acquisition of British firm Accord Limited, and the group of companies controlled by it (Accord), by Kirk Newco plc, controlled by funds managed by 3i investments plc, of the United Kingdom. Accord provides outsourced services primarily to the public sector. (cd)
