THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/kosovo

30/08/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 30 August in Vienna, the troika on Kosovo began further discussion with the Serbian and Kosovar representatives on the status of the current Serbian province. Before meeting the Kosovar delegation headed by the president of the province, Fatmir Sejdiu, the EU representative within the troika, Wolfgang Ischinger, said it was necessary to establish whether the two parties really had the will to find a “political solution”. “We want to try and reach a negotiated solution so that we do not have a non-solution at the Security Council once more”, he told German radio RBB-Info. The talks, which are aimed at finding a solution accepted by both sides, should last 120 days. After this period, the American, Russian and European representatives will hand over a report to the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon. Due on 10 December, the report is not expected, however, to put forward any new proposals. (aby)
