Imminent ban on Red 2G potentially carcinogenic food colouring

Brussels, 20/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - The food colouring Red 2G, which is mainly used in hamburgers and breakfast sausages, will very soon be prohibited within the EU. The representatives of the EU27, who met within the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health, approved, on 20 July, the Commission's proposal aimed at banning imports, marketing and use of the substance, which is potentially carcinogenic.
