The UK's IMPERIAL TOBACCO (€4.7 bn turnover in 2006, workforce of 14,500), the world's fourth biggest tobacco company, has made a €16.2 bn offer (including debt, in other words €50 a share) for the world's fifth biggest cigarette company, Franco-Spanish company ALTADIS (€3.97 bn turnover in 2006, workforce of 27,400), which has decided to accept the offer, having earlier rejected it twice.
