17/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday evening, the Libyan High Judicial Court was due to begin its final examination of the case of the five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor, condemned to death for spreading AIDS, following the announcement of compensation for the families of the victims. “The families received their cheques during the night (of Monday into Tuesday) and began to withdraw the money from banks this morning,” the spokesman for the families told AFP on Tuesday. Each victim would receive one million dollars, he added. The High Judicial Court, which has the power to amend or even annul the death sentences delivered by the Supreme Court on 11 July, was due to meet on Tuesday evening. (hb)
