17/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana welcomed the outcome of the second international meeting on Darfur, which took place in Tripoli (Libya) on 15-16 July. This meeting showed that, at this critical time, the international community was united in support of the efforts of the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) to bring peace to Darfur, said Mr Solana is a statement published on Monday evening. He said, too, that the Arusha meeting, scheduled for 3-5 August 2007, was an “encouraging development”, which should “prepare the ground for early negotiations”. Mr Solana also called on all parties to “to facilitate the task of the AU-UN and to refrain from parallel initiatives”. (hb)
