THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/kosovo

16/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - While the United Nations Security Council was, on Monday, to look at a new draft resolution finalised by the Americans with the support of Paris and London, the European Commission restated its support for a settlement to the status of Kosovo in a multilateral context. Repeating the comments by Commissioner Olli Rehn last week, his spokesman called on Serbia, on Monday, to “play a constructive role in the next phase of the process” and on all parties not to “pursue unilateral actions, whether declarations or veto threats”. The last text doing the rounds at the UN is said to provide for new discussions between Belgrade and Pristina during a 120 day period, and no longer refers to automatic transition towards supervised independence of the current Serbian province should these new talks stall.
