Brussels, 16/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Commission intends to propose “Euro VI” measures to member states before the end of the year. These measures aim to reduce damaging lorry and bus emissions. In view of preparing this proposal, the Commission launched a wide consultation of the stakeholders on Monday 16 July. A press statement explained: “The Commission will take into account the responses it receives during the consultation when it drafts the final proposal.
The Euro VI proposal will define common rules in the EU for the construction of motor vehicles and ozone precursors (nitrogen oxides, NOx and hydrocarbons, HC) and particles. Stakeholders are requested to provide their opinions on a certain number of scenarios requiring different levels of strictness. In an effort to reach convergence on uniform value limits in different parts of the world, two scenarios are similar to future standards in the US. Stakeholders are also requested to provide observations on how the different scenarios impact on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Contributions and observations can be sent in up to 5 September 2007 at the following address: entr-emissions-euro-VI@ec.europa.eu. (hb)
