16/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - Within the context of the White Paper on sport last week (see EUROPE 9466), press groups have complained that journalists are finding it more and more difficult to cover some sports events. At the last meeting of the Association of Newspaper Editors on 25 June, attended by over 30 press organisations, journalists criticised in particular the International Rugby Board (IRB), which organises the Rugby World Cup, for increasingly limiting journalists' access to the events it organises. This has a knock-on effect on the quality of the reporting. The public is affected, but so is the event itself, deprived as it is of media coverage, the Association of Newspaper Editors said. (il)
