Brussels, 26/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - “It is a key moment to reinforce the economy, and every effort has to be made in order to effectively exploit the current window of opportunity,” said EUROCHAMBRES President Pierre Simon on Tuesday in a press release, after a meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister José Sócrates. The Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry welcomed the outcome of the summit, and hopes that Europe will move forward on issues important to business: growth and competitiveness. EUROCHAMBRES urges the Portuguese presidency, for example, to make progress on the European Institute of Technology (EIT) and the European Private Company Statute (EPCS). It also hopes that, to help European SMEs enter the Chinese and Indian markets, initiatives, based on the successful “EU Gateway to Japan” scheme, will be launched, along with measures to remove administrative obstacles to the use of renewable energy in order to reach CO2 emission reduction targets.
