Brussels, 25/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - The second round of negotiations for the conclusion of a trade and cooperation agreement (TCA) between the EU and Iraq will be held in Brussels on 25 and 26 June. The aim of these negotiations is to discuss the objectives of the agreement, its general structure, particularly its scope, and the pace and details of the forthcoming negotiations. The future agreement will help to improve the regime of trade between Iraq and the EU and focus on a vast range of issues, including trade in products, services, measures to encourage investment, customs, intellectual and industrial property rights and rules governing public procurement. Cooperation may also focus on a number of important aspects in the economic area and the field of human development and the reduction of poverty, on the environment, culture and education. In a press release, the Commission points out that all agreements with third countries will, in future, include human rights, terrorism and weapons of mass destruction among their major elements. (ol)
