06/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the Council adopted conclusions in which it underlined its support to the UN Council on Human Rights. It also highlighted the fact that “all members share responsibility for responding to violations of human rights in an efficient, credible and swift way…” The EU appreciates the strong signal from the UN General Assembly and has indicated that a repressive regime that is not accountable for its actions did not have a place at the Human Rights Council. Nonetheless, it said that some regional groups had adopted the tactic of “clean electoral lists”. It said that for the next elections it would be encouraging more candidates than the number of seats in power. (ab)
