Brussels, 06/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - The final obstacle on the way to a resumption of negotiations, currently suspended, between the EU and Serbia, in view of the conclusion of a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) was lifted on Wednesday when the prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, Carla Del Ponte, said that the Serbian government had proved its genuine political good will in arresting fugitives being tracked down by the ICTY. Del Ponte said that the arrest of Zdravko Tolimir demonstrated that the authorities were able to act. She said that she thought that, “now they have the political will to act…I expected that all the fugitives, particularly Ratko Mladic are arrested and transferred to The Hague”. Del Ponte is currently visiting Belgrade and made this declaration in an interview on Serbian television (B92). On Wednesday the spokesperson for Commissioner Olli Rehn (enlargement), said that the European Commission is, however, awaiting the report Del Ponte is expected to present after the visit to the UN, before setting a date for resuming SAA negotiations.
