Luxembourg, 05/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - In a ruling made on Tuesday 5 June, the Court of Justice decided that measures taken by the Swedish state to maintain the Systembolaget monopoly over the wholesale import of alcoholic beverages constitute an unjustified restriction on the free movement of goods. Leaving the monopoly on wholesale alcohol sales unscathed, the judgement does question the monopoly on imports because of the lack of proportionality on public health objectives.
