Ahead of Heiligendamm Summit, Barroso writes to Merkel and to the other member states calling on them to keep promises to increase development aid

Brussels, 25/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - Before the next G8 Summit under German presidency (in Heiligendamm on 6-8 June), European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has asked all EU heads of state and government and the President of the European Parliament to call on Europe to keep its promises on aid to the poorest. Mr Barroso made his request in a letter sent on 24 May to the German Chancellor, heads of state and government of the other 26 member states and Hans-Gert Pöttering.
