14/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - In conclusions adopted on Monday, the Council welcomes the “encouraging” results of the conferences on Iraq held in Sharm-el-Sheikh on 3 and 4 May, in the hope that they will help to improve the situation in the country. Welcoming the commitments made by the Iraqi government, as part of the “International Pact for Iraq”, the ministers believe that their implementation will be “of capital importance for reinforcement between Iraq and all of its international partners”. They pointed out that “it is up to the international community, and particularly the States of the region, to support and to promote the difficult process of national reconciliation and stabilisation in Iraq and to prevent any external interference which may hinder this process”.
