23/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - Reaffirming its commitment to the process of peaceful change and national reconciliation in Burma/Myanmar, the Council decided, without discussion, on Monday 23 April to renew the Common Position extending restrictive measures against Rangoon. In their conclusions, EU Foreign Ministers expressed their deep concern on the lack of tangible progress in the promised transition towards a legitimate civilian government. They reiterated their call for the early release of all political prisoners and called for an end to the military campaign against civilians in conflict areas. The Council restated its willingness to suspend restrictive measures and to increase cooperation if there is a visible improvement in the political situation in the country. (ab)
