THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/nepal

02/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - In a declaration published on Sunday, the EU explained that it “considers the promulgation of the interim constitution, and the formation of the interim parliament and government, as important milestones in the peace process in Nepal”. The declaration by the German presidency stated that: “They lay the ground for re-establishing stable democratic structures and institutions and, in the long term, a sustainable peace”. It also called on the new government to operate in line with democratic principles, to tackle impunity, to deliver reforms through state institutions and to dismantle any parallel structures. Several political groupings make up the provisional government, including five Maoist ministers. (ab)
