02/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - By request of the Spanish authorities, Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes will meet Spanish Minister for Industry, Tourism and Trade Joan Clos, who will be on a visit to Brussels on 2 April. Ms Kroes' spokesperson, Jonathan Todd, told the press of the commissioner's hopes of a declaration announcing Madrid's withdrawal of illegal restrictions on the proposed takeover of the Spanish energy company Endesa by its German counterpart, E.ON. He acknowledged, however, that “as the Spanish authorities have very recently reiterated why they felt their restrictions were not illegal, I'm not holding my breath”. (cd)
