Brussels, 23/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to refer Spain to the European Court of Justice for failing to fully apply the Commission's directive on the transparency of financial relations between the member states and public enterprises (2000/52/EC, amending directive 80/723/EC). Spain had previously been formally requested through a reasoned opinion of March 2005 to fully apply the directive within two months. Madrid has not yet complied with this request. The Commission has also sent a reasoned opinion to Slovenia, inviting it to fully transpose the initial financial transparency directive 80/723/EEC and the three directives amending it (85/413/EEC, 93/84/EEC and 2000/52/EC). If Ljubljana does not take the necessary measures to comply with the reasoned opinion within two months from when it is received, the Commission can decide to refer Slovenia to the Court of Justice of the European Communities.
