Open letter from European Older People's Platform to Union leaders before Berlin Declaration is made

Brussels, 21/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - The German EU presidency, which wants the Berlin Declaration to be concise and to the point, needs to compose it out of the many recommendations made by various contributors. In an open letter to the heads of state and government, the European Older People's Platform (AGE), which groups associations representing over 25 million people in Europe aged 50 and over, draws up, for example, a list of priorities that it hopes to have included in the text celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. Wishing to include a vision of the future for the next 50 years, the AGE network hopes member states will sign up to the following principles and objectives: solidarity, prosperity, respect for our diversity, sustainable economy, participatory democracy, greater security, and a positive role for the EU in the world.
