15/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - French anti-terrorist judge Jean-Louis Bruguière believes that the risk of terrorist attack in Europe is particularly high and constantly increasing. He warned that the recent alliance announced between Al-Qaeda and the Algerian GSPC constituted a particularly serious threat. According to a report by AP on 13 February in New York, Judge Bruguière stated: “The GSPC wants to carry out attacks in Europe, especially in France, Italy and Spain, and destabilise North Africa”. The same day, the GSPC claimed responsibility for a wave of coordinated bombings that killed at least six people and injured around 30 in Algeria. The operations mode and targets reflect the way in which the GSPC is operating and which is now called the “Al-Qaeda Organisation of the Islamic Maghreb”. Bruguière linked this increased threat to the war in Iraq by the US-led coalition. (bc)
