08/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - A conference, “Taxation for sustainable development”, the first in a series of annual meetings dedicated to taxation policy in the EU, will take place in Brussels on 19-20 March. It will focus on the contribution that taxation can make to sustainable development and how it can promote other policy objectives, such as environmental protection, while bearing in mind economic and social aspects. Taking part will be Commissioners Kovács and Dimas, responsible for taxation and the environment respectively, and German Federal Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück. In the spring, the Commission will bring forward a Green Paper on a European policy on indirect taxation in the energy, transport and environmental sectors.
