08/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 6 February, the European Commission adopted a proposal calling for the Council's go-ahead for extending the 1992 international sugar agreement for a further two years (until the end of 2009). The EU budget has earmarked a total of €1.023 million for 2008 and 2009 to this end. The agreement was most recently extended in May 2005 (until 31 December 2007). (lc)
