After Iran and intentions expressed by GCC countries, Syria announces decision to replace dollar with euro for external transactions

Damascus, 15/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 13 January, Syria announced its intention to "replace the dollar with the euro in all dealings of both the public and private sectors". The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Adib Mayyalé, explained that this decision has been made with a view to "avoiding the effects of the US ban on dealing with the Commercial Bank of Syria".
