Strasbourg, 12/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the Commission sent a reasoned opinion to Slovenia for failing to notify sufficient national implementing measures under Directive 2002/91/EC on energy performance of buildings in response to the letter of formal notice sent to it in February this year. The aim of Directive 2002/91/EC, that the EU25 are supposed to have fully implemented since 4 January 2006, is to reduce energy consumption in buildings by obliging Member States to lay down minimum energy performance standards and apply those for new buildings and for renovations of larger existing buildings. As Ljubljana has not provided a satisfactory response to this reasoned opinion within the two months allowed, the Commission may refer the matter to the Court of Justice. (eh)
