29/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Benelux Parliament (which has existed since 1958 and is made up of 21 Belgian parliamentarians, 21 Dutch and 7 from Luxembourg) will have discussions on 1-2 December in The Hague on its future role, in light of the Benelux after 2010 work group report. A press release from the Belgian parliament indicated that “it is the right time to revise the Benelux Treaty of 1958”. The press release also indicated that the current treaty, which is approaching its expiry date, barely takes into account the “renaissance of the regions in the European Union” or progress in new areas, such as the fight against fraud, the fight against drugs, police cooperation or medical aid.
