Brussels, 23/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has confirmed that Microsoft has submitted a revised version of its technical documentation in response to the Commission's decision of March 2004. The decision mainly stipulates that Microsoft should provide “complete and accurate interface documentation which would allow non-Microsoft work group servers to achieve full interoperability with Windows PCs and servers” (EUROPE 8673). The documentation will be subject to double scrutiny by: - a group of IT specialists will verify how useful the information is for creating software compatible with Windows, and a representative agent designated by the Commission, Professor Neil Barnett, will be responsible for determining whether the specifications provided do indeed correspond to the Miscrosoft systems. The results of the assessment according to these two criteria will be taken into consideration when deciding whether the additional penalties imposed since 12 July 2006 (EUROPE 9231) are to be reduced or not, but the process will, according to the Competition Commissioner's spokesman, last “months rather than years”.
