20/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 21 November at the European Parliament, Cystic Fibrosis Europe will be organising a first ever European cystic fibrosis awareness day. Patients and parents of patients will be coming to this event from fifteen European countries where they will be meeting with MEPs. Specialist doctors, such as Jean-Jacques Cassiman and Marie Johannesson from Sweden will also be attending. One out of thirty Europeans is a carrier of the genetic defect causing Cystic Fibrosis. Although the disease is well known in countries like France, the disease is still seldom diagnosed in Latvia. Although a patient has a life expectancy of 50 in Scandinavia, in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, life expectancy does not go beyond three. Further information: http://www.cfww.org (oj)
