06/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - Neelie Kroes' spokesperson confirmed to the press on Monday that the Commission is continuing its probe into the measures taken by the Spanish government into making conditions imposed by the national energy regulator (CNE) more flexible on the merger between E.ON and Endesa. This weekend Madrid finally proposed getting rid of most of these conditions, with those remaining being “acceptable” to the German firm, according to a declaration made by its president Wulf Bernotat in a press release. Called on to take measures at the end of September to get rid of these barriers forthwith (EUROPE 9273), the Spanish authorities were late in doing so and the Commission therefore launched an infringement procedure against the company (EUROPE 9289).
