06/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner Markos Kyrianou will travel to Brazil from9 to 13 October to recall to Brazilian authorities their responsibility to guarantee that products for export to Europe conform fully to Community rules, says a Commission press release. In the past, the Commission has had to take drastic measures with certain Brazilian products because of food safety and animal health problems (residue form veterinary products in some foodstuffs, foot and mouth disease, problems with the traceability of animals etc.). Mr Kyprianou will stress that other measures could be taken if the problems are not fully resolved. During his trip, Mr Kyprianou will meet Brazilian external relations minister Celso Amorim and agriculture minister Luis Carlos Guedes Pinto. (hb)
