Brussels, 06/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 5 October the Council of Ministers of the EU adopted without debate, a draft amending budget for the 2006 budget, which will allow for the mobilisation of €120 million in supplementary funding to encourage economic development of the Turkish Cypriot community. This new funding is being taken from what is available under the section 7 ceiling (pre-accession strategy) for financial perspectives. This draft amending budget (No5/2006, presented last July)) includes €4 million in commitment appropriations to the “European Year of Equal Opportunities For All (2007)” and creates three new budget lines, which for the record, take into account the new modernised accounting rules implemented by the European Commission. The text has been sent to the European Parliament for adoption. (lc)
