€448 million for improving vineyards

Brussels, 06/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 4 October the European Commission adopted a decision setting out the amount of Community aid at €448.8 million granted in 2006 to restructuring and re-conversion programmes for 63,732 hectares (ha) of vineyards in 14 EU Member States. This aid taken out of the current budget, involves the commercialisation campaign for 2005-2006. Spain will receive the biggest financial envelope, with €158 million (for 23,325 ha), then France (€108 million for 12,302 ha), Italy (€96.6 million for 14,714 ha), Portugal (€44.4 million for 6,437 ha), Germany (€12.4 million for 1,966 ha), Hungary (€10.6 million 1,482 ha), Austria €6.5 million for 1,347 ha) and Greece (€5.7 million for 788 ha). The financial allocations of the EU budget are less than €7 millions in six other wine producing countries (Czech Republic, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Malta and Luxembourg). (lc)
