On 4 October Commission expected to present new proposals for strengthening road safety

Brussels, 25/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 25 September Jacques Barrot, the Commissioner for transport explained that the Commission intends to step up its efforts with a view to achieving the target of halving the number of road accident victims by 2010. The Commissioner was participating in a parliamentary symposium on road safety in Europe held at the French National Assembly in Paris, where he used the occasion to highlight forthcoming initiatives which the Commission intends to take to strengthen road safety: directives on the safety of roads in the trans-European network, and mirrors for existing HGVs to reduce, in particular, the number of accidents involving cyclists and motorcyclists.
