Brussels, 18/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is to grant additional aid of €2.6 million to the victims of Hurricane Stan in Guatemala, after the aid of €3.5 million made available early October 2005, when the hurricane struck (also affecting Salvador). The situation remains precarious especially for the poorest inhabitants whose families are often native to the region, a press release states, indicating that this additional aid will provide drinking water and sanitation, protection barriers, healthcare and prime necessities. It will also help to re-launch essential farming activity and ensure disaster readiness in order to help victims get back their autonomy and lay the foundations for local and national reconstruction.
