05/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 4 July, the European parliament adopted the report by Corien Wortmann-Kool (EPP-ED, Netherlands) and backed the draft regulation seeking to repeal regulation 4056/86 which exempts maritime conferences from general Community competition rules and to amend regulation 1/2003 putting an end to the exclusion of international tramp and cabotage services from the general rules for the application of competition law. Parliament insisted, however, that the repeal of regulation 4056/86 and the amendment of regulation 1/2003 be conditional on the drawing up of guidelines to strengthen legal security in the sectors concerned.
